The 25th annual Vakanz travel fair is taking place this week-end at LuxExpo in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

The event was opened formally on Froday afternoon with Jean-Michel Collignon, CEO at LuxExpo, welcoming everyone and talked about both inbound and outbound tourism increasing. He referenced the new Tuxembourg for Tourism initiative, as did the Secretary of State fof the Economy, Francine Closener.

Other issues highlighted in the opening remarks included the Meet Luxembourg congress that is to take place at LuxEcpo in September 2016 and that 2017 is to be designated Year of Tourism.

The events is spread over halls 7,8 & 9, with themed bars and other attractions throughout. Starbucks have a pop-up store on the Lux-Airport stand, across from Luxair / LuxairTours which again has the largest stand at the fair. Many hoteliers are exhibiting from France, the Black Forest in Germany, and Switzerland, with other tour operators promoting long-haul destinations from Japan to Africa and Austalasia, with others promoting bus tours and railway holidays from Luxembourg, amongst others.
