In the context of its lecture series on 'The European Union as a Global International Actor', the University of Luxembourg will be holding a lecture on 'International Migration Governance and the European Union' on Monday 7 December 2015.
Holder of the Jean Monnet Chair of European, International and Public Law at the University of Konstanz, Daniel Thym, will discuss the chances and challenges of the EU's quest for international migration governance, most recently in the field of asylum and refugee protection. This venture is an interesting concept as it would involve migration eventually being subject to international norms and institutions. However, the EU's quest pursues two countervailing objectives, aiming to enhance state control whilst also protecting human rights and refugee law.
The lecture will take place at 17:00 at the University of Luxembourg, on Kirchberg Campus, conference room B 001. Weicker Building, 4, rue Alphonse Weicker, 2721 Luxembourg. Registration can be submitted online under the event section of www.uni.lu.
