The Grand Ducal Police have reported that two driving bans were issued following separate drink-driving incidents in Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 September 2026.
According to the police, at around 17:00 on Thursday, a vehicle left the road on a bend in Rue de Kopstal in Rollingergrund, Luxembourg City, struck a roadside marker and then collided head-on with a tree. The driver suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment.
A breath test returned a positive result and the driver was issued with a provisional driving ban. He also told police that he had been using his phone while driving and was not wearing a seat belt. The road was briefly closed during the rescue operation.
In a separate incident, at around 03:30 on Friday, a police patrol noticed a vehicle driving erratically on the A4 near the Esch-sur-Alzette-Centre exit. Officers followed the vehicle and observed that the driver repeatedly braked and drove in a zigzag pattern.
The vehicle was stopped on Boulevard Pierre Dupong in Esch-sur-Alzette. Police said the driver showed clear signs of alcohol consumption and a subsequent breath test returned a positive result. A driving ban was imposed and a report was filed.
