On 22 October 2015, the first CryptoParty4Kids will be held during the 11th edition of the hack.lu conference, as part of the BEE SECURE initiative.
The event will involve various games introducing children to the basics of practical cryptography and the fundamental concepts of their operation. Games and activities will include Introduction to Cryptography; Learn How to Encrypt and Decrypt; Discovery of Advances Cryptography Technics; and Break the Cypher.
The event has been created under the auspices of hack.lu, an open convention allowing for discussion of computer security, privacy, information technology and its subseuqent impact on society. hack.lu attracts more than 250 people annually from around 40 different countries, who attend it to learn more about a specific topic within the sector. This year's theme concerns schooling and education.
The CryptoParty4Kids is also an initiative of BEE SECURE, which aims to promote the secure use of Information Technologies.
"This workshop is dedicated to children aged from 8 to 12 and will be held in English," explained Matthieu Farcot from Security Made in Lëtzebuerg (SMILE). "Indeed, this year we will have the chance to get the active support of some experts from the hack.lu conference. The children will learn about cryptography, networking and secure browsing. But more importantly, they will have fun, as everything will be reached through games. It will be a great premiere".
