The Ville de Luxembourg has announced that a number of places are still available for 11 - 17 year-olds to participate in the Sport-Wochen (sports week) ogranised until 6 September by the Service des Sports (SdS).

On 17 July, an official visit took place to the SdS Sport-Wochen "n Rosport where young people aged 11 to 12 years of age were participating in the Mini Multisports course  where they had the opportunity to test a host of water sports (canoeing, dragon boating, stand-up-paddling, ...) on the river Sure.

The aim of the Sport-Wochen is to enable youngsters to discover one or more new sports or improve their sporting skills during the summer vacation, make new friends and develop in a friendly atmosphere.

This year's Sport-Wochen programme consists of four "Mini Sport-Wochen" for young people aged 11 - 12 years, and 14 "Sport-Wochen" for young people aged from 13 - 17 years. These 18 courses, each lasting 4 to 7 days, some with and some without accommodation, are organised in Luxembourg City, across the different regions of the Grand Duchy and abroad.

While the early weeks are now ending and the majority of the 290 seats available are already reserved, there are still places available on some courses:

In the Grand Duchy:
• Sportsfun on wheels (wheeled sports such as BMX, karting, skateboarding, longboarding, mountain biking ...)
• Dance Arts (hiphop, breakdance, zumba, jazz ...)

And abroad:
• Kitesurfing, Windsurfing and Sailing at Brouwersdam (Netherlands) - for both novice and experienced, with the possibility to gain the VDWS badge
• Multisports in Sala Comacina (Italy)
• Rafting, Canyoning'n Sportsfun in the beautiful valley of Oetztal (Austria)

Registration  is open up to the start of each course, depending on availability. Registration forms are available from Luxembourg city's Bierger Centre at the Hotel de Ville (city hall), as well as online at www.vdl.lu.  Registration forms must be sent by fax (454160), email (mleyder@vdl.lu or sports@vdl.lu) or by post (Sports Services, 5 Rue de l'Abattoir, L-1111 Luxembourg).
