Last Saturday the Colour Run in Echternach provided a great opportunity to enjoy the wonderful scenery and summery weather.
Thousands of participants – many wearing imaginative costumes – gathered to collect as much colour as possible, not just on their white t-shirts!
Amongst them was a cheerful group of youngsters and their back-up staff from the Yakary Group at the Institut Saint Joseph in Rumelange, which is run by Caritas Jeunes et Familles asbl, who were give the chance to take part by EUMA Luxembourg.
“Without the support of our sponsors Voyages-SNCF, Voyages Emile Weber, the organisational committee of the Colour Run, the Barrière Group of hotels and the generosity of our members, none of this would have been possible,” explained Catherine Johannsson, their Chairman. “More outings are in the pipeline, the idea being to give these youngsters and their support staff regular excursions to look forward to.”
Described as the "happiest 5k on the planet" or "the happiest 5 km in the world", the Colour Run is a racing event inspired by the Holi festival of Indian Spring 5 km, where all participants start in white t-shirts. After each kilometre, the runners are covered with coloured powder in the "Colour Zones". The powder is a mixture of corn starch and food colour. It is environmentally friendly and even edible. Upon arrival, the Finishers attend a Colour Party in colour, where participants throw coloured powder that was distributed in advance. The race is being organised in over 200 cities in North and South America, Europe and Australia.
