The Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) has announced the “Plëss in concert” initiative, with a grand total of twenty-three live performances scheduled for the rest of the month, beginning this Friday, 8 May at the Place d’Armes in Luxembourg-Ville.
The “Musique Militaire Grand-Ducale” will highlight the start of the musical season, by performing “Victory in Europe Day”, marking the 70th anniversary of the Liberation (end of World War II) from 18:30 on Friday. It will feature works of P. Nimax, A. Rampini, Anna Marly, J.-Paul Frisch, Paul Anka, Nikki Kirsch, P. Albrecht, F. Mertens, Morton Gould and John Ph. Sousa – all paying tribute to Luxembourg, and the Allied victory in Europe.
The bandstand of Luxembourg’s most famous square will be the focal point for tourists, as peak season for incoming visitors gets underway this month. With the programme set right in the heart of the capital, bands from the Grand-Duchy and abroad will have a major platform to share the country’s rich musical heritage.
For decades, the Place d’Armes bandstand has seen an array of military music groups, brass bands, jazz ensembles and ambient music from all across the world. It is also a popular platform of support for the local music scene, giving up-and-coming musicians attempting to connect with an audience, an opportunity and a stage to do so.
All concerts are free to attend.
