The Luxembourg Ministry of Sport, along with the National Youth Service (SNJ), have announced that they will organising the seventh edition of the Sports Night event on Saturday 16 May from 15:00 to 01:00, where young people will be able to discover new sports and encouraged to participate in physical activity.

More than 250 workshops and demonstrations will be organised by various youth organisations and sports clubs from various municipalities, and run by qualified personnel. In each of the participating municipalities, the event will take place in one or numerous central locations, bringing together the different activities.

Aside from the traditional sports, unique, original activities, such little-known or seldom-practiced disciplines, adapted for the occasion, will be offered to the participants.

For example, in the municipality of Beckerich, young people will discover Taekwondo and Slackline. In Crauthern, the Berchem youth organisation will be running a hip-hop workshop, as well as Sumo wrestling, Jombolo (fitness), and Zumba workshops. At the Mondercange site in the village square, a wide range of activities will be hosted from fencing to cross-fit to breakdancing. In the surrounding areas, archery, downhill cycling and karting will be available, also. The recreation and sports zonein Remerschen will offer beach volleyball, a ‘Soccer Cage’, Bungy Trampoline, ‘Speedminton’, Zumba and Tennis.

Participation at Sports Night is free of charge and no reservation is necessary (except for special activities requiring supervision – yoga, shiatsu).  No special equipment is needed either, apart from sports-appropriate clothing.

Twenty-one municipalities will be proposing the evening-long event: Aspelt, Beckerich, Bettembourg, Colmar-Berg, Contern, Crauthern, Dudelange, Echternach, Esch-sur-Alzette, Grevenmacher, Grosbous, Hesperange, Koerich, Lultzhausen, Luxebmourg-Ville, Mondercange, Mondorf-les-Bains, Remerschen, Roodt/Syre, Schifflange and Steinfort.
