The data from Luxembourg's Ministry of Health shows that the number of number of hospitalisations remained more-or-less stable since the first Omicron variant was detected in Luxembourg.

Luxembourg's Minister of Health, Paulette Lenert, and Chief Medical Officer, Jean-Claude Schmit, announced the first case of Omicron variant in a 30-year-old woman working in a nursing home in southern Luxembourg during a media briefing on Monday 13 December 2021.

The daily hospitalised cases in standard care was highest on 13 December 2021 at 61 patients and on Thursday 6 January 2022 the figure was 50, while the number of patients in intensive care remained between nineteen and 26 in this period. In addition, 25 deaths have been recorded since the first Omicron variant was detected here.

In total, between 13 December 2021 and 2 January 2022, 202 patients were hospitalised and 169 were discharged from hospital, the weekly data from the Luxembourg Ministry of Health shows.

In comparison to hospitalised cases, the number of 'active cases', i.e. individuals who remain in isolation or quarantine post-PCR confirmation of SARS-CoV-2, has increased 2.5 fold, from 5,484 cases as on Monday 13 December 2021 to 13,766 cases on Thursday 6 January 2022.
