On Friday 3 July 2026, Luxembourg's Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, inaugurated the new section of the PC5 cycle path between Medernach and Ermsdorf.

According to the Luxembourg Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, the event took place in the presence of Bob Bintz, Mayor of the Municipality of the Ernz Valley, municipal representatives and Roland Fox, Director of the Roads Administration, marking a further step in the development of Luxembourg's national cycling network.

The new section forms part of the development of the Ernz Blanche cycle path, linking Junglinster and Reisdorf. It extends cycle path PC5 and, in its first phase, provides a connection between Medernach and Ermsdorf. In the future, the section will be linked to PC16 via Moestroff, further improving the interconnection of the national cycling network.

The ministry noted that the 3.4-kilometre section passes through a varied natural environment and was designed to meet both terrain constraints and user requirements. Sections through woodland have a concrete surface to ensure durability, while the remaining sections have been surfaced with asphalt to provide comfort, good grip and year-round usability.

Minister Backes said: "This project is fully in line with the implementation of the national policy for the development of the cycle path network, which aims to strengthen continuous, safe and accessible infrastructure for everyone. By providing a route separated from motorised traffic, it offers an attractive and safe alternative for everyday travel, including for children, while helping to reduce car use." She added: "This connection represents an essential link at regional level by improving the continuity of the existing network and intermunicipal connections. It also contributes to enhancing the tourist appeal of a particularly attractive region."

Construction of the new section began on 10 December 2024 and was completed on 3 October 2025. According to the ministry, the total cost of the project amounted to €1,113,026.62 (including VAT).
