On Wednesday 5 January 2022, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, François Bausch, Chief of Defence General Steve Thull and Force Commander Colonel Yves Kalmes presented the free rapid antigen test campaign for employees having received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Minister Bausch expressed his gratitude to the Luxembourg Army and its members for their commitment and flexibility during the implementation of the testing campaign. “One of the missions of the army is to help and support the country and its citizens in times of crisis", he said. "It is for this reason that the army did not hesitate to take up the challenge and implement this campaign despite the scale of the task. I express my respect to them for the thoroughness and speed with which they set up this campaign”.
The adoption of Bill 7924 by the Chamber of Deputies marks the start of the entry into force of new government measures making the 3G CovidCheck regime (vaccinated, recovered or tested) compulsory in the workplace from 15 January 2022. From this date, any employee going to the workplace must present either a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate, recovery certificate or negative test certificate.
Employees having received their first vaccine dose and who are now waiting to get their second dose can be tested for free from 14 January 2022. Concerned individuals will receive a series of codes allowing them to set 20 appointments for free certified rapid antigen tests in one of the five test centres managed by the Luxembourg Army. This scheme will run until 28 February 2022. Appointments can be made from 10 January 2022 on www.covidtesting.lu.
More than 200 members of the army are engaged per week in this campaign to ensure the management of these testing centres, which will be located in the Luxexpo-Sud car park in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, the P&R Sud in Luxembourg-Howald, the car park near the Raemerich roundabout, the ZANO industrial zone in Fridhaff and near the cultural centre in Junglinster.
The testing centres will be open between 15 January and 28 February 2022, Monday to Thursday from 06:00 to 20:00, Fridays from 06:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00, Saturdays from 06:00 to 10:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00 and Sundays from 06:00 to 10:00 and from 13:00 to 20:00.
Making an appointment is compulsory for anyone wishing to be tested. Concerned individuals must present their appointment confirmation and ID before the test. Rapid antigen tests are valid for 24 hours.
