The syndicate of Luxembourg pharmacists, Syndicat des Pharmaciens Luxembourgeois (SPL), has announced that on-duty pharmacies will not certify rapid antigen tests during the end-of-year public holidays.

In light of the government's decision to introduce stricter COVID-19 measures, as well as huge demand from patients for the certification of rapid antigen tests and a limited capacity in pharmacies, the SPL has confirmed that pharmacies which are on duty over the Christmas holidays will not carry out rapid test certification on the following dates: 24 to 26 December 2021 inclusive, 31 December 2021 and 1 January 2022.

The SPL emphasised that the top priority of pharmacies remains medication dispensing and urged patients not to clog telephone lines during on-duty services to request rapid antigen test appointments.

The list of pharmacies which carry out rapid antigen tests within their opening hours can be consulted via the website: www.pharmacie.lu and via the government website: www.covid19.lu. The SPL warned of longer waiting times and higher fees for certified rapid antigen tests.

The SPL also recalled that patients displaying COVID-19 symptoms should not go to a pharmacy.
