In order to have a more precise overview of the evolution of COVID-19 infections in the country, the Luxembourg government is organising the "Lëtzebuerg test sech" (Luxembourg tests itself) campaign from 13 to 19 December 2021.
Last week, each household in Luxembourg should have received a letter in the post inviting them to pick up a kit of five antigen self-tests free of charge from one of the 98 pharmacies in the country.
The distribution of these kits aims to allow the entire population to test themselves collectively on two specific days this week (spaced three to four days apart): the first test will take place on Tuesday 14 December 2021, whilst the second will take place on Friday 17 December 2021.
"Through this action, which consists of carrying out large-scale tests, we will have a real-time reflection of the health situation in the country and, thanks to the detection of positive cases, the isolation of the people concerned can be done more quickly", explained Luxembourg's Minister of Health, Paulette Lenert.
The participation of most of the population is expected to make it possible to significantly reduce the number of new coronavirus infections before the festivities and family reunions at the end of the year and to avoid the implementation of more restrictive measures.
Members of the public are invited to share their participation with or without a photo on social networks using the hashtag #Lëtzebuergtestsech and / or by tagging @sante.lu.
In the case of a positive rapid antigen test, individuals should immediately report their result to the competent authorities via the website: covidtracing.public.lu. Each declared positive test will be counted and statistics will be published at the end of the test week.
The Ministry of Health recalled that this campaign is not aimed at the school sector; students and staff will continue to be tested three times a week at school.
