On Tuesday 7 July 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported that 44 motorists had been fined during an enforcement operation on the A3 motorway and also detailed two separate drink-driving incidents that occurred over the previous few days.
During the operation, conducted by the National Traffic Police on Friday 3 July between 16:00 and 20:00, six officers fined 44 drivers for misusing the motorway's carpool lane.
Officers also fined four motorists for using a mobile phone while driving, while three drivers were unable to present a driving licence during the inspection.
In addition, officers found two vehicles with expired road tax discs, two without a valid technical inspection certificate and four displaying number plates that did not comply with legal requirements. They also identified technical defects relating to tyres, windows and headlights on five vehicles.
Separately, at around 19:30 on Sunday 5 July 2026, police officers noticed a driver who had parked on Avenue du Luxembourg in Bascharage and was urinating beside his vehicle.
During the subsequent check, officers observed clear signs of alcohol consumption. They took the driver to the police station, where he refused to undergo an alcohol test.
As the man's driving licence had already been revoked for drink-driving, the Public Prosecutor's Office ordered police to seize the vehicle, which officers transported to an impound lot. Police also drew up an official report.
Later that evening, at around 21:30, police responded to reports of a disturbance at a shopping centre on Rue des Trois Cantons in Wickrange.
According to initial information, several intoxicated individuals had behaved aggressively towards security staff. Police established that one of the intoxicated men had earlier driven around the shopping centre's multi-storey car park. After security staff asked him to leave because of his behaviour, he allegedly damaged a barrier with his vehicle before driving through several parking levels at excessive speed. No one was injured.
When officers arrived, the driver remained in his vehicle. They took him to the police station, where he tested positive for alcohol. Police issued him with an immediate driving ban, handed him a summons and drew up an official report.
