On Sunday 28 June 2026, Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden was joined by Elmedin Konaković, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in attending a commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide at Tony Neuman Park in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg.

Among those in attendance for the ceremony to pay tribute to the more than 8,000 Muslim men and boys who were murdered in July 1995 in the town of Srebrenica, which had been declared a "safe area" by the United Nations while the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina was ongoing, were Anne Calteux, representative of the European Commission in Luxembourg; Marc Hübsch, non-resident ambassador to Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, Marc Angel, MEP, Adnan Halilovic, President of the Srebrenica Luxembourg Committee, and representatives of the Mothers of Srebrenica, a Bosnian association dedicated to preserving the memory of the victims and seeking justice on their behalf.

In May 2024, Luxembourg co-sponsored a United Nations resolution establishing the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica.

Luxembourg’s Ministry of State reported that during the ceremony, a commemorative award was presented to Prime Minister Frieden in recognition of the Government's role as a co-sponsor of the resolution. The award was described as a handcrafted piece symbolising openness and the bonds between peoples.
