On Wednesday 24 June 2026, Luxembourg's national railway company, CFL, announced that heatwave-related disruptions on the Luxembourg to Esch-sur-Alzette, Rodange, Thionville and Metz rail lines will continue until 12:00 on Thursday 25 June.

Following a heat-related technical fault affecting the track at Berchem on Monday 22 June, services have been disrupted on the Luxembourg to Esch-sur-Alzette, Rodange, Thionville and Metz lines.

According to the CFL, the extreme temperatures caused technical issues on the railway infrastructure, resulting in a significant reduction in the number of trains operating on both lines but due to the high temperatures, repair works could not be carried out during the day and instead had to be undertaken overnight when the temperature conditions required for the repairs were met.

The CFL advised that additional technical interventions are currently underway to allow a gradual return to normal service, which is not expected before 12:00 on Thursday 25 June.
