A rapid-fire sequel that is arguably the best of the lot, culminating in an amazing car chase in Las Vegas. Before then, though, the action starts in Athens where Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) has been lying low and is contacted by fellow former agent Nicky Parsons (Julia Stiles) who has hacked into the agency computer system and downloaded information about previous covert operations including the infamous Threadstone in which Jason Bourne was involved, as well as others, including one current one.
Meanwhile, the CIA has traced the hacking operation and has Parsons and Bourne on the back foot, in the middle of riots in the city. They deploy a hitman to take both down, but Bourne manages to escape, but not before Parsons reveals that Bourne's father was behind the creation of the Threadstone programme. Bourne then goes after, and is aslo hunted down by, CIA Director Robert Dewey (Tommy Lee Jones) and agent Heather Lee (Alicia Vikander).
While the original film in the Jason Bourne series, The Bourne Identity (2002), was the one where the audience was kept guessing about his true persona, and there were twists and turns aplenty, this latest film in the series takes the action sequences to a whole new level. Much more like a conventional thriller in which the story unfolds, with one ultimate goal and a number of sub-plots thrown in for good measure, this film is non-stop action from start to finish.
The character is based very loosely on Robert Ludlum's novel, the Bourne Identity. This film, however, is understood to have double the budget available to it (USD 120m).
