Luxembourg Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, Xavier Bettel, was in Cannes over the weekend to attend the Marché International du Film of the 69th Cannes Film Festival.
The Luxembourg Film Fund was represented for the 14th time with a pavilion at the international village where it hold 19 entities under this umbrella.
The Prime Minister attended the presentation of the Luxembourg virtual reality projets "Fan Club", directed by Vincent Ravalec and produced by a_BAHN an "Next", directed by Olivier Pesch and produced by Samsa Film.
Prime Minister Bettel's visit enabled him to familiarise himself with the world's largest market for audiovisual production, where he met a host of industry professionals in Cannes. He used the opportunity to highlight a positive evaluation: strengthened cooperation with RTL Group, progress made with ARTE, better coordination of public financial support in the audiovisual field, renewal of the co-production treaty with Canada, and the strengthening of relations between Luxembourg and new or established co-production partners, such as Denmark and North Rhine-Westphalia.
The prime minister welcomed the strong cooperation between industry associations such as the ULPA, LARS, ALTA, Actors.lu, the Fédération des métiers de l'ainimation et de l'image virtuelle and d'Filmakademie.
"I think you have to invest in creativity, education and living together," Xavier Bettel stated, emphasising the importance of culture in society. "Culture is a way of preventing the face of negative forces that could undermine the cohesion of our living together."
