Decathlon to Open 1st Store in Northern Luxembourg

Decathlon has announced that it will open its first store in northern Luxembourg at the Massen Shopping Center in Weiswampach on Saturday 26 September 2026.

The new store will occupy the former JBC premises and have a retail area of 1,050 m². Located close to the Belgian and German borders, it will be open seven days a week from 09:00 to 18:30.

According to Decathlon, the Massen Shopping Center welcomes more than five million visitors per year, averaging around 14,000 visitors per day. The company said the location was selected to serve local residents, tourists and cross-border customers from Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.

The store will offer equipment for more than 30 sports, with a particular focus on outdoor activities such as trekking, running, hiking, camping and cycling. It will also feature a bicycle workshop (with repairs guaranteed within 24 hours), while products not immediately available in store will be available to order through the company's digital services.

Speaking with Chronicle.lu, Nicolas Deltenre, Regional Director of Decathlon Belgium and Luxembourg, explained that the cross-border customer base was a key factor in choosing Weiswampach. He said: "It is a dynamic area all year round, driven by the daily flow of Belgian, German and Luxembourgish customers, as well as by the differences in public holidays and school holidays across the three countries. This location meets a genuine demand that local residents have been expressing to us for a long time."

Regarding the product range, Nicolas Deltenre explained that the Weiswampach store would offer a broader selection than the existing Decathlon in Luxembourg-Ville. He said: "The available floor space will enable us to offer a much more comprehensive range than that of our urban Decathlon City format. As well as the range on the shelves, we'll be placing a strong emphasis on service: there'll be demonstration areas where customers can try out products in real-life situations, as well as a fully equipped technical workshop for equipment maintenance and repairs."

When asked about sporting trends among customers in Luxembourg during summer 2026, he noted that cycling had been particularly popular "ranging from children's bikes to road bikes and mountain bikes”. He continued: “Outdoor activities also performed very well: hiking, camping, running and water sports were particularly popular with customers in Luxembourg."

Looking forward, Nicolas Deltenre confirmed that it is considering further expansion in the Grand Duchy.

Customers will be able to place Click & Collect orders from Monday 7 September 2026, with collection from the Weiswampach site available from Monday 14 September 2026 by appointment. The store also said that is currently recruiting a local team of around ten employees.
