After winning the Grand Prix at the International Environmental Film Festival (FIFE) last week, Red Lion Luxembourg production 'La Supplication' has come away triumphant again at the 35th Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival held from 7 to 23 April 2016.

The film, developed by Luxembourg film-maker Pol Cruchten from the novel 'Voices from Chernobyl' by Belarusian Svetlána Alexiévich, was unanimously awarded the 'Best Documentary' award by the jury at the American film festival.

Backed by Film Fund Luxembourg and Austria' OFI, 'La Supplication', also known by 'Voices from Chernobyl', was shot entirely in the Ukraine and explores the eyewitness accounts of those who were affected by the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster which killed 31 people and led to long-term effects and illnesses such as cancer.

"Voices from Chernobyl is a deeply moving poetic journey, which explores the relationship between tragedy and enduring love through the stories of those whose lives were profoundly changed by the Chernobyl nuclear accident," the jury announced. "The film's exceptional visual power and innovative experimental approach widens the creative freedom and potential of documentary filmmaking."

The film is being released in Luxembourg theatres on Wednesday 27 April 2016 to coincide the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster which is being recognised today.

'La Supplication' will also soon be screened at the DOK.fest München, the Etonnants Voyageurs (Amazing Travellers) festival in Saint-Malo, as well as at several event avant-premieres in France, where its official release is expected for 21 September.
