Red Lion Luxembourg production 'La Supplication' scooped the 'Grand Prix' at the final night of the 33rd International Environmental Film Festival (FIFE) on Tuesday.
The prize was unanimously awarded by a jury chaired by Luc Jacquet (director of 'March of the Penguins', 'Ice and the Sky') and composed of producer Suzana Amado; reporter Jean-Louis Caffier; president of the Walt Disney Company France Benelux, Jean-François Camilleri; visual artist Elsa Guillaume; CEO of Enercoop, Emmanuel Soulias; and composer Fredrika Stahl.
Directed by Pol Cruchten, 'La Supplication' is based on the novel 'Voices from Chernobyl' by 2015 Nobel Prize for Literature winner, Svetlána Alexiévich, who along with Mr. Cruchten met Luxembourg Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, and Secretary of State for Culture, Guy Arendt, in February earlier this year to discuss the film and its context within international politics. The film is due to be released in Luxembourg cinemas on 27 April 2016 to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.
An avant-premiere has been organised for 10:00 on Sunday 17 April 2016 at the Cinéma Le Paris as part of the Literatour festival in Bettembourg. The screening will be followed by a debate between Pol Cruchten, CNA director Paul Lesch and Roger Spautz of Greenpeace Luxembourg.
