On Tuesday 2 September 2025, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) communicated that production Unit 3 at the Cattenom nuclear power plant had been reconnected to the national electricity grid following its scheduled maintenance shutdown, which began on 10 May 2025.

According to the plant operator EDF-CNPE, the scheduled shutdown, known as a “partial outage”, allowed teams to replace part of the fuel and carry out more than 14,000 inspection and maintenance operations, including 35 modifications to the installation, further strengthening the reactor’s safety level.

They also stated that EDF teams and its industrial partners completed major maintenance projects, such as replacing control-rod guide tubes and control-rod drive mechanisms, fully inspecting a low-pressure section of the turbo-alternator, conducting the hydraulic test of the secondary circuit and performing extensive valve-related activities.

The CGDIS noted that all four production units at the Cattenom plant are now operating and supplying electricity to the grid.
