On Friday 26 February 2016, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Secretary of State for Culture, Guy Arendt, met with the 2015 Nobel Prize for Literature winner, Svetlana Alexievitch.

Xavier Bettel, who is also Minister of Culture, met with the Belarusian author upon her visit to Luxembourg as part of the Luxembourg City Film Festival. The film 'Voices from Chernobyl' ('La Supplication'), based on Ms. Alexievitch's novel of the same name, was screened later that Friday at Utopolis Kirchberg, and is due to be shown again at the Cinémathèque on Monday 29 February 2016. The film's director and producer, Luxembourg's Pol Cruchten', was also in attendance at the meeting to visually present the eyewitness accounts of the lives before and after the incident of those affected by the Chernobyl disaster.

During the meeting between the Prime Minister, the Secretary of State for Culture and Svetlana Alexievitch, those present addressed the Luxo-Belarusian film project and the international political situation.
