On 24 September 2015, Minister of Culture, Maggy Nagel, received the newly appointed members of the Luxembourg National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO.
The National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO, the Luxembourg branch of which has been attached to the Ministry of Culture since 2001, forms part of a global network of advisory bodies which seek to promote the objectives of UNESCO and inform relevant parties of its projects.
In addition, these National Commissions connect government agencies, public and private institutions, NGOs and the academic sector with UNESCO projects concerning culture, environment, education and communication.
The new President of Luxembourg's National Commission, Simone Beck, emphasised the duty of the Commission to communicate and promote the idea behind UNESCO, including the idea that architectural heritage, industrial sites, natural legacy, melodies, dances, gastronomy and customs belong to us all.
The new National Commission is comprised of representatives from the Chamber of Deputies; the Ministry of Culture; the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs; the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youtg; the Ministry of Higher Education and Research; the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Sustainable Developed and Infrastructure; the National Youth Service; the University of Luxembourg, the National Press Council; the National Women's Council. the General Conference of Luxembourg Youth; the Consultative Commission on Human Rights; the National Commission of Ethics; the Cooperation Circle of Development NGOs; the Higher Council of Sports; as well as representatives and experts from the education, science, culture, communication and tourism sectors.
Catherine Decker will assume the role of Secretary General of the Commission.
