On Thursday 28 January 2016, members from the Facebook page 'Caring for Kian' will be holding a fundraising event in support of the three-year-old boy from Northumberland who was diagnosed with aggressive stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer.
Kian was just 18 months old when he received his diagnosis, with a total of 27 tumours covering his body. The cancer was initially successfully treated in England, but the 80% chance of a relapse prompted Kian's mother to raise funds via her Facebook page in order to provide an anti-relapse treatment at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Unfortunately, despite best efforts the cancer returned in December 2015, leaving Kian's only chance of survival as a stem cell and immunotherapy at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, where treatment is expected to cost £555,000. Kian's mother, Kat Musgrove, has so far managed to raise £260,000 but is still far from the target needed.
The Facebook page has done more than raise funds, it has also brought together four strangers in Luxembourg who are determined to lend a hand to the cause. With this in mind, they have joined forces with Craig Harker from The White Rose pub in Luxembourg City to hold a fundraising event this Thursday at 19:00 with a raffle, prizes, drinks and food.
The Facebook event can be found here, the Caring for Kian profile page here and his Kapipal page here.
