On Saturday 22 August 2026, members of Luxembourg’s Iranian community gathered at Place de Clairefontaine in Luxembourg-Ville for a demonstration and photo exhibition highlighting executions and alleged human rights violations in Iran.
The event, organised by the Association des jeunes iraniens Luxembourg, aimed to draw attention to what the organisers described as a “worsening human rights situation in Iran”, including executions, arbitrary arrests, torture and the use of force against protesters.
A photo exhibition displayed images of people who had been executed in Iran. Participants also commemorated political prisoners executed during the 1988 mass killings, as well as people executed following more recent protests in the country.
Speaking with Chronicle.lu, Iranian student Aysan Saber explained: "Today we are here to commemorate the memory of all the political prisoners of Iran that have been executed in 1988 during the big massacre of Iran and also in the memory of [...] the people that have been manifesting in Iran and also been executed during the last protest in Iran."
She added that the demonstrators wanted to be "the voice of Iranian people", saying that Iranians wanted democracy and the freedom to choose their own government.
Aysan Saber continued: "Iranian people want a democracy, a democratic republic in Iran, and they want to be free and be able to choose their government freely. [...] They don't want any kind of dictatorship, religious or monarchic".
She concluded that protesters were calling for "democracy and liberty based on all the fundamental human rights for Iranian people".
