Luxembourg’s national railway company, the CFL, recently reported that it designed a limited-edition pair of mismatched socks for CFL employees to purchase, to mark World Down Syndrome Day on Friday 21 March 2025.
According to the CFL, 478 pairs of the customised socks were produced and featured the design of a Z2 train on one sock and a Coradia train on the other, a direct reference to the practice of wearing mismatched socks on World Down Syndrome Day to raise awareness about difference and promote inclusion in society. The sale of the socks to CFL employees raised €4,780, with proceeds going to Down Syndrome charity Trisomie 21 Lëtzebuerg Asbl.
Chief Executive Officer of CFL, Marc Wengler, explained: “Our Communications Department designed this pair of socks to show respect for and acceptance of difference and diversity in our society. The enthusiasm from within our teams for this initiative shows their strong commitment to welcoming and supporting all passengers on our trains, including those with disabilities.”
The CFL presented a symbolic cheque of €4,780 to representatives of Trisomie21 Lëtzebuerg on Monday 28 April 2025 at the association’s headquarters in Betzdorf. The organisation works to help people with Down Syndrome to lead independent, fulfilling lives in every aspect of society.
The initiative was supported by Luxembourg's Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes.
