On Thursday 28 May 2026, Luxembourgish non-profit organisation, Unity Foundation, released a statement to mark its 35 year anniversary.

In a press release, the foundation said: “Education is a right and its effects are transformative. For 35 years, Unity Foundation has put this into action by partnering with local organisations that offer programmes which enable people to acquire knowledge and skills to improve their own lives and contribute to the betterment of their communities.”

The non-profit organisation reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable change rooted in local realities. Over 35 years, it has built long-term partnerships with local organisations that the foundation said have “entrusted it with the financial support of their projects, ensuring that the protagonists of development are those who know their communities best”.

It highlighted its support for locally led initiatives across three lines of action: 1) Community Schools, providing quality education to children from the preschool level up in rural and peri-urban areas, 2) the Preparation for Social Action Programme, building the capacity of young people and adults to take action in areas such as health, agriculture and environmental conservation and 3) Training Centres, designed to accompany organisations promoting community schools in a dozen African countries.

Since its creation in 1991, Unity Foundation has partnered up with local organisations to offer education and training programmes in seventeen countries, reaching thousands of people and during these 35 years, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has continuously co-financed its projects. The programmes Unity Foundation currently supports assist young people and adults to establish community schools, engage in agricultural activities and serve their communities in ways that reflect their talents and aspirations, delivering the message: “Unity starts with U!”

Fernand Schaber, President of Unity Foundation, remarked: “At 35, we’ve reached a remarkable milestone and gained the experience that comes with it. At the same time, we still carry the energy of a start-up for the years ahead – bringing together the best of both.”

Looking ahead, the Unity Foundation said it remained committed to expanding access to education and training, helping more people realise their potential and supporting communities in defining the path of their own development.
