On Sunday 29 September 2024 in Wormeldange, the local council hosted a folklore and donation day at the cultural centre.

Wormeldange is still recovering from the untimely loss of its mayor, Max Hengel, who died of cancer a few weeks earlier at the age of 47, and in opening the proceedings, his successor, Claude Pundel, paid tribute to his contribution to the organisation of the event as well as his wider contribution to the local and national political landscape.

The programme included live music and dance from Armenia, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Ukraine, as well as the Wormeldange municipal band and local cover singer Marc Linden. Additionally, a number of artisan stalls selling a variety of both local and Eastern European products were present. The event also included an official attempt to enter the Guinness Book of Records with the preparation of the world’s largest pan of Hungarian Goulash (1,500 servings) outside in the forecourt of the building.

The beneficiary of the charitable donation from the event is local organisation Stëmm vun der Strooss, whose various centres around the country support the most vulnerable members of Luxembourgish society. Director Alexandra Oxacelay explained to Chronicle.lu that the funds received will go towards the renovation of the non-profit's social restaurant in Luxembourg-Hollerich. This project is aimed at significantly increasing daily capacity from the current 400 servings per day. It is costing some €300,000 and, while it is expected to be completed by the end of October 2024, the fundraising activities are ongoing.
