The law firm Pinsent Masons Luxembourg has announced they are launching a new edition of the “Supporting Young Lives” toy drive scheduled to run from Tuesday 14 to Thursday 30 November 2023 across Luxembourg.

Organised in collaboration with 23 businesses and supporting nine charities, the primary goal of this initiative is to help children who are facing challenging situations in Luxembourg and the Greater Region.

Recent Eurostat findings revealed that 29.4% of children under eighteen are at risk of poverty in Luxembourg (Eurostat data for 2021). As part of their “Inspiring Young Lives” global programme, Pinsent Masons Luxembourg has taken the initiative to organise this toy collection. The aim of this action, according to Pinsent Masons is to create a positive impact on the lives of young people and foster community involvement.

Residents and border residents can drop off their donations at six public collection points around Luxembourg from 14 to 30 November. About 23 Luxembourgish companies will also organise an internal toy collection for staff and clients to contribute. The six public drop-off points available across the country are:

  • Pinsent Masons Luxembourg, 69 boulevard de la Pétrusse, Luxembourg ;
  • CFL, Luxembourg Train Station (luggage storage, platform 3) ;
  • Kaempff-Kohler, 49 rue Gabriel Lippmann, Niederanven;
  • Kaempff-Kohler, 18 Place Guillaume II, Luxembourg;
  • Kaempff-Kohler, 55 Av. John F. Kennedy, Luxembourg;
  • Pall Center, 2 Arelerstrooss, Oberpallen.

New or second-hand items in “perfect working condition” can be donated, such as toys, books, puzzles, board games, indoor and outdoor items, electronic items like consoles, video games, sports equipment, school supplies, bicycles, scooters and more. For hygiene reasons, the “Supporting Young Lives” toy drive cannot accept soft toys, clothing and shoes.

“Supporting Young Lives” currently assists nine organisations working to support young people within Luxembourg and the Greater Region. Several of them are well-known, but the toy drive also benefits smaller and lesser-known charities. The charity event aims to offer all these groups their share of the limelight, as well as draw attention to the work they achieve on a daily basis. Volunteers will sort the toys based on the needs expressed by the charities, with delivery planned for the beginning of December. In 2022, 40m3 of donations were collected. Delivery is planned for the beginning of December.

A few of the beneficiary associations for 2023 are: Een Häerz fir kriibskrank Kanner, Elisabeth Kanner, Fondation Kannerschlass, Foyer Sud "Fraen an Nout", Maison Croix-Rouge Arlon, Stëmm vun der Strooss, TABA, Trauerwee and Tricentenaire.
