Caritas Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Red Cross have announced that they are launching an appeal for warm clothing for their most vulnerable beneficiaries ahead of winter.
This solidarity action is taking place via the national collection and sorting centre (Centre national de Collecte et de Tri).
"Despite the generosity of the general public to help people in need to clothe themselves, our stocks are empty concerning warm winter coats and jackets and men's clothing", explained François Authelet, head of management of the material and food aid service of the Luxembourg Red Cross. "This is why, with our partner Caritas Luxembourg, we are joining forces to organise a call for solidarity, so that hundreds of people can spend the winter in warmth".
Beneficiaries especially need warm jackets, jumpers, trainers and other shoes, especially those for men (small and medium sizes). Only items that are clean and in good condition will be accepted.
"When someone flees a country at war to come to Luxembourg, they rarely arrive with a suitcase full of winter clothes adapted to the climate we are experiencing", added Irène Jamsek, social groceries coordinator at Caritas Luxembourg.
In this context, Caritas Luxembourg, the Luxembourg Red Cross and the Aarbechtshëllef asbl have joined forces to set up, with the support of Luxembourg's Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region, the national collection and sorting centre to efficiently manage clothing collections and best cover the urgent clothing needs of Luxembourg residents in need.
