On Wednesday 2 February 2022, Luxembourg's Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Franz Fayot, signed seven new framework agreements with non-governmental development organisations (NGDOs).
The following five NGDOs signed the renewal of their respective development framework agreements: Action Pour un Monde Uni asbl, Fondation Partage Luxembourg, Guiden a Scouten fir ENG Welt, SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde and Unity Foundation.
Le Soleil dans la Main asbl, which was previously under the co-financing modality, signed its first development framework agreement on this occasion. Another two NGDOs, Humanitarian Aid - Luxembourg Red Cross and Handicap International Luxembourg, signed their first framework agreement in consortium.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the presentations of the framework agreements, as well as the signing ceremony, took place in virtual form, in the presence of Minister Fayot and representatives of the NGDOs.
These seven new framework agreements will benefit from a total contribution from Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of approximately €32 million, which will cover the period between 2022 and 2026. The activities co-financed by Luxembourg's development cooperation programme will thus benefit from a co-financing up to 60% to 80%.
Geographically, the activities of the development framework agreements that will be implemented by the NGDOs are spread across 25 countries on three continents: Benin, Cameroon, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Cape Verde, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Cambodia, India, Uzbekistan, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala and Peru. Activities also include regional projects in South America and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The projects of the NGDOs aim, among other things, to intervene in the fields of education, continuing vocational training and the socio-economic integration of young people, inclusive and health education, rural and agricultural development, drinking water supply and human rights.
Minister Fayot praised the sectors of intervention chosen by the NGDOs, which are aligned with the general strategy of development cooperation. He thanked the teams of the NGDOs and their local partners for the good work done over the past few years and reaffirmed that the signing of the seven development framework agreements would complement the actions of Luxembourg's development cooperation programme at bilateral and multilateral level.
