The Institute for Global Financial Integrity (TIGFI) is organising its 43rd Luxembourg Monthly Finance Lunch on Wednesday 16 September 2015 at the Cercle Munster in Luxembourg-Grund from 11:30.
Stephen Platt, Barrister, Author and Adjunct Professor of Law, will speak on the topic of "The criminal abuse of financial centres and why existing models of prevention are flawed".
Stephen Platt is a barrister and the author of the award winning and #1. best-selling book 'Criminal Capital', the first book to examine the role played by the international financial services industry in facilitating crime and laundering criminal property. Stephen is an English barrister and an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Graduate School of Law, in Washington D.C. He is one of the world’s foremost experts in the criminal abuse of financial services both on and offshore and is regularly instructed by regulators and governments in the largest and most sensitive matters involving financial crime and financial regulation globally. He was co-opted by the World Bank to both the Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative (StAR) and the study analysing Illicit Financial Flows from Somalian Piracy. He has trained the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Treasury, the SEC, the FBI, ICE, Europol, the Metropolitan Police and numerous intelligence and regulatory agencies. He has spoken at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the Royal United Services Institute, the European Parliament, the UN and the World Bank. He appears in the mainstream media regularly and is widely published in both the U.S. and the UK. Stephen founded the global on-line AML Community KYC360. He acts as Senior Consultant for the regulatory investigations specialists, Stephen Platt & Associates LLP.
