On Wednesday 16 October 2024, the City of Luxembourg announced the laying of the foundation stone of a new community centre in Neudorf/Weimershof.

The new building which will be on the 4,017m2 site of the former school on Rue des Marguerites will be integrated as well as possible into the urban context of the surrounding buildings and mainly constructed on a single floor. The first phase of construction will see building commence at the front of the site. Following this, the existing building will be demolished, and the space given a new use.

The new building will have four areas reserved for associations, two of which will have separate external access. There will be a large rehearsal/multifunctional room which will be built in solid wood with a visible wooden surface. The acoustics of this room will be achieved using rock wool insulation with a wooden acoustic panel. The other parts of the building will be constructed using a wooden frame. The building will also include storage rooms, sanitary facilities, a technical area and a refuse room.

Construction materials, both interior and exterior, have been  carefully chosen to allow for deconstruction and recycling in the future. The current site will be modified as little as possible. The existing access will be preserved but parking will not be permitted. However, parking areas for people with reduced mobility and for bicycles will be made available.

It is anticipated that the construction will be completed by October 2025 with an estimated cost of approximately €4.4 million.
