On Tuesday 19 August 2025, the Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF) announced that Jeff Strasser had been appointed as the new coach of the men’s national team.
As a player, he played 98 matches under the Rout Léiwen (Red Lion) colours, during which he scored seven goals. He also played for clubs such as Metz, FC Kaiserslautern, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Strasbourg and Grasshopper Club Zurich. After his playing career, he became coach at CS Fola Esch-Alzette, with whom he won the championship twice, before briefly taking over the reins of his former club FC Kaiserslautern before returning to Esch. He also coached Swift Hesperange and Jeunesse Esch, before becoming coach of Progrès Niederkorn, with whom he won the National Lottery Luxembourg Cup in 2024.
He succeeds Luc Holtz, who left his position as the national coach on Monday 11 August, before the end of his contract, after the FLF announced it would not be renewing his position beyond its current term, which would have ended on 31 December 2025. On Tuesday 12 August, it was announced that Mr Holtz is now in charge of German third-division club Waldhof Mannheim.
During an interview with the FLF, Jeff Strasser said: “First of all, I would like to thank the Federation, Paul Philipp as president, the entire Board of Directors of course as well as Manuel Cardoni for the trust they place in me. Obviously, it feels good and I am motivated to take up this new challenge in a positive way. It is of course also a certain pride to be able to coach the national team from now on.”
He will now lead the men’s national team into the FIFA World Cup qualifiers which start next month. His contract runs until Wednesday 31 December 2026.
