On Monday 24 August 2026, Luxembourg non-profit organisation Stëmm vun der Strooss held its traditional annual outing to the Schueberfouer for people experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable members of society.
Participants from the organisation's social restaurants in Luxembourg-Hollerich, Esch-sur-Alzette and Ettelbruck gathered at the funfair from midday, where they were able to enjoy rides and other attractions before sharing a meal later in the afternoon.
As part of the outing, Restaurant Kessel welcomed a group of beneficiaries for the eleventh consecutive year, while another group was hosted by Mick Loguercio and Cyrille Schneider of Friture Joslet. The initiative continued a long-standing tradition of offering participants a few hours away from the difficulties they face in their daily lives.
Speaking with Chronicle.lu, Alexandra Oxacelay, Director of Stëmm vun der Strooss, noted that the organisation's beneficiaries look forward to the outing each year. "It's a possibility for them to forget their problems for a few hours," she said, adding that both participating restaurants were expected to be full.
José Del Rio of Stëmm vun der Strooss explained that the organisation brings together people facing various difficulties, including homelessness and unemployment, to enjoy the Schueberfouer together, with food and activities available for both adults and children.
He added that the initiative also aims to show that people experiencing difficulties "should be allowed also to share this traditional Schueberfouer in Luxembourg".
Alexandra Oxacelay also highlighted the importance of donors in making such initiatives possible. While Stëmm vun der Strooss receives a budget from Luxembourg's Ministry of Health, she explained that growing demand means public funding does not cover all of the organisation's activities. "For us, it means a lot to be supported by donors," she said, noting that around 10% of the organisation's activities are financed through donations.
