On Tuesday 25 August 2026, the Grand Ducal Police announced new reports of bogus delivery drivers in separate incidents across Luxembourg in recent days.
One such incident happened on Monday, on the Rue de Reckenthal in Strassen, and another on Rue Michel Lentz in Bereldange.
In both cases, the perpetrators use a similar method: An unknown man rings the doorbell of mostly elderly people and pretends to be delivering a package. He demands a small fee for delivery by bank card. The victim holds their bank card to a device carried by the perpetrator and enters their PIN code. The perpetrator then discreetly swaps the bank card for a similar-looking card issued in a different name. Due to the similarity of the cards, the victims usually do not notice the switch immediately. The perpetrators then use the stolen bank cards to make payments or withdraw cash.
Anyone who has fallen victim to such a scam is urged to contact the police station of their choice immediately.
The police have urged members of the public never to let one's bank card out of one's sight, to stop the transaction immediately if one has any doubts, and especially to inform and raise awareness among elderly people in one's personal circle about this scam.
