The Luxembourg police have reported that they are investigating an incident that happened on Friday afternoon in Luxembourg city centre following which a toddler and a woman were hopsitalised.

At around 15:30 on Friday afternoon, a toddler was discovered on the pavement on the Rue Fort Wallis (between Bld d'Avranches and Rue Bender) with serious injuries. A short time later an injured woman was discovered a short distance away. The emergency services were called and both injured were taken to hospital by ambulance.

The exact circumstances of the incident were unclear to the police who have not discounted a hit-and-run theory. Luxembourg's public prosecutor has ordered the launch of a criminal investigation.

The student received minor injuries, but the driver fled the scene.
