From 24 August 2015, a restoration project will be taking place on the bridge over the river Sûre in Diekirch.
The reconstruction project was initiated after cracks were reportedly found in the arch of the bridge during a regular inspection. A 30 tonne limit was subsequently put in place on the bridge, and renovations will provide the bridge with reinforcement in its foundations and the implementation of a new platform on the structure, consisting of wider pavements for pedestrians.
The work will be carried out in two phases so as to minimise traffic congestion and disruptions. The first phase will be exectued from August until 13 November 2015, allowing one lane to remain open and traffic to enter Diekirch by bridge access.
However, the second phase, which will begin in March 2016, will involve a complete closure of the bridge to traffic. Signs providing redirection routes will be put in place by the Administration des Ponts et Chaussées.
