
On the eve of the opening of the 675th edition of Luxembourg's renowned Schueberfouer funfair, Chronicle.lu has compiled all the necessary transport, parking, access, food and general information to guarantee a worry-free wild ride.
PARKING
The Ville de Luxembourg will be providing free shuttles which will circulate every ten minutes between Park&Ride carparks Bouillon (2,440 spaces, free for 24 hours) and Luxembourg-Sud (800 spaces free of charge) and Glacis square. In addition, the Place de l'Europe car park is situated directly next to the Glacis and offers 850 spaces. Further available carparks to use include:
- Trois Glands (350 spaces, parking charges apply)
- Auchan (2,770 spaces, certain parking charges apply)
- Konrad Adenauer (415 spaces, parking charges apply Mon-Fri between 08:00 and 18:00)
- Coque 1 and 2 (350 spaces, parking charges apply)
- Parking du Stade (400 spaces, parking charges apply)
Whilst the Schueberfouer is in town, parking spaces in the Limpertsberg district will be subject to parking charges from Mon-Fri until 01:00 and Sat-Sun between 14:00 and 01:00.
TRANSPORT
City bus lines circulating between the Gare Centrale and the City Centre or 'Fondation Pescatore' and 'Glacis' stops of the Schueberfouer will be free of charge on weekdays from 18:00, all day on Saturdays and from 13:00 on Sundays. These bus lines are AVL 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 16, 18, 19, 20 and 30.
Additional bus times have been added for certain lines, starting from 01:00 in the morning, with the exception of nights from Sunday to Monday. The buses, which will depart at different times and from various stops on Fondation Pescatore, are 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 5, 28 and 11. The 'Call-a-Bus' bus on-demand service will be in operation until 00:00 Monday to Saturday, and must be reserved at least 45 minutes in advance on +352-4796-4797.
REDUCED MOBILITY ACCESS
Every day between 15:15 and 22:30, the 'Fouer-Call-a-Bus' service willbe available to any person in a wheelchair or mobility scooter and does not require reservation in advance. This service will circulate between P+R Bouillon and the Schueberfouer, at the Boulevard de la Foire stop in front of the Institut National des Langues.
As in the case of previous years, wheelchairs and walkers will also be made available free of charge during the opening hours of the Schueberfouer at the Service Incendie et Ambulance area near the fair entrance. Those with reduced mobility are advised to reserve a wheelchair or walker in advance at +352 4796-4215 or 4796-4106, where they may also find out information on wheelchair access in Schueberfouer eateries.
OPENING HOURS
The Schueberfouer will be open from 11:00 to 01:00 on weekdays and Sunday; and from 11:00 to 02:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
SPECIAL EVENTS AND KEY DATES
- Friday 21 August 2015: 675th Schueberfouer opens at 17:00 with a musical piece by the Harmonie Municipale Luxembourg & Limpertsberg. Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer will cut the ribbon announcing the 2015 fair officially open!
- Wednesday 26 August 2015: Family day with ticket prices reduced by 30%.
- Sunday 30 August 2015: Fouersonndeg
- Monday 31 August 2015: Stater Braderie
- Tuesday 1 September 2015: 'Journée de la Solidarité' (Solidarity Day). 'Médecins sans Frontières' and 'l'île aux clowns' will be in attendance with information stands near the entrance of the Schueberfouer to inform the public on the work they do to help people in need.
- Thursday 3 September 2015: Biergerdag
- Wednesday 9 September 2015: From 11:00 until 20:00, rides will be half-price. At 22:00, a firework display on the Pont Grande-Duchesse Charlotte will celebrate this year's fair, before the gates close at 01:00 on Schueberfouer 2015.
