An arsonist, thought to have started several fires in a shopping centre, was arrested by Grand Ducal Police yesterday evening.
In the early evening of 6 August 2015, fires were reportedly started in several areas of Pommerloch shopping centre. A 30-strong team of firefighters arrived on the scene and soon brought the fire under control.
Witnesses of the incident were able to confirm the identity of the suspected arsonist, who had watched the firefighters extinguish the flames and was then arrested at the scene. The Police reported that the man was already known to the police, who are therefore investigating a potential connection between the suspect and an incident in Ettelbrück last month in which a passenger train collided with a telehandler on the railway tracks between Kautenbach and Ettelbrück.
The man was arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor and was brought before the examining magistrate this morning, the outcome of which is not yet known.
