On 12, 13 and 14 July 2015, an informal meeting of rural development directors took place in Luxembourg to dicuss transnational cooperation in this field.

Discussions centre around the LEADER ('Liaison Entre Actions de Développement de l'Économique Rurale') approach, which seeks to form sub-regional partnerships between the private, public and civil sectors in order to utilise their available resources in the rural development process.

Since its fourth programming period, between 2007 to 2013, LEADER action has expanded to incorporate 2402 rural territories across the EU Member State. The directors and deputies responsible for rural development in the Ministries of Agriculture of the Member States, as well as representatives of the European Commission, received the opportunity during the three days to visit LEADER projects in the Luxembourgish regions of Redange/Wiltz, Mullerthal and Miselerland.
