From Monday 13 until Wednesday 15 April 2026, Grand Duke Guillaume together with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, and Minister of Finance, Gilles Roth, visited the United States (US).

According to the ministries this visit took place in the context of the “Luxembourg-American Business Award”, a distinction awarded every two years and organised by the Luxembourg American Chamber of Commerce and the Luxembourg Trade & Investment Office in New York.

At the twelfth edition of the Business Award, the prize went to Plastipak Inc, together with its subsidiary LuxPET AG based in Bascharage. Established in Luxembourg since 1998, the company specialises in the production of PET bottles and preforms. It is also active in the recycling of food-grade PET and contributes to the development of the circular economy and the sustainable use of plastic materials.

Previous recipients of the award include companies such as Amazon, Goodyear, Guardian, Avery Dennison Corporation, Husky Injection Molding Systems, Delphi Corp, Airtech Advanced Materials Group, Ampacet Corporation, DuPont and RedWire, all of which operate in Luxembourg.

In his speech at the award ceremony, Grand Duke Guillaume said: “I would like to underline that Luxembourg remains firmly committed to free trade and to a rules-based multilateral system, which ensures fairness, predictability and stability. Our country is open, benefits from first-class infrastructure and remains strongly committed to its partnership with the United States.”

For his part, the Minister Bettel stated: “Many of you are already present in Luxembourg with your companies, while others may be considering establishing themselves there. For the Luxembourg government, it remains essential to create the right conditions for Luxembourg to remain attractive, in order to attract companies like yours and to continue to serve as a gateway for American businesses into Europe.”

The visit also included meetings with representatives of the American business community. Grand Duke Guillaume, accompanied by Minister Bettel, visited a healthtech company specialising in clinical-level artificial intelligence applied to patient care K Health, while Minister Roth visited PayPal.

As part of the visit, the delegation also held a commemorative event with Second World War veterans, highlighting the historical ties between Luxembourg and the US, noted the ministries.
