
Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and Minister of Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Xavier Bettel, was in Bhutan on a working visit n Friday 14 and Saturday 15 March 2025, the fist such visit by a Luxembourg Minister of Foreign Affairs to this South Asian country.
According to Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Minister Bettel was received by Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel, for working meetings that provided an opportunity to exchange views on bilateral relations and the latest developments in Asia and Europe.
The discussions focused on opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Luxembourg and Bhutan. With this in mind, Minister Bettel and his Bhutanese counterparts continued the discussions initiated during Prime Minister Tobgay's working visit to Luxembourg last January, exploring avenues for cooperation in areas such as sustainable finance, tourism, education, technological innovation and sustainable development.
Together with Prime Minister Tobgay, Minister Bettel then visited the Royal Institute for Tourism and Hospitality, which provided an opportunity to interact with young people pursuing training in this key area for the Bhutanese economy. They then discussed opportunities for future cooperation in the fields of tourism and vocational training in this context.
Minister Bettel then left for New Delhi, India, where he will participate in the multilateral conference "Raisina Dialogue," which annually brings together representatives of civil society, economic stakeholders, journalists and high-ranking Indian and foreign dignitaries to discuss key global geopolitical and geoeconomic issues
