The Christmas Cities Network has announced Vilnius (Lithuania), Celje (Slovenia) and Noja (Spain) as the European Capital, City and Village of Christmas 2025, respectively.

These destinations have been recognised for their outstanding holiday traditions, commitment to community spirit and creative festive experiences that set them apart as top holiday destinations.

Supported by the European Parliament, the Christmas Cities Network promotes the cultural, social and economic significance of Christmas celebrations across Europe. The selection process, led by an international jury chaired by Professor Danuta Hübner, highlights cities and villages that excel in fostering community engagement, innovation and the preservation of holiday traditions.

Vilnius, Lithuania’s historic capital, has been chosen as the European Christmas Capital for 2025. Renowned for its iconic Christmas tree in Cathedral Square and UNESCO-listed Old Town, the city offers a mix of traditional charm and modern creativity during the festive season. Visitors can enjoy markets, the Christmas train, cultural events and ice skating, all illuminated by warm, festive lights. The city also prioritises sustainability, using energy-efficient lighting and eco-friendly decorations.

Celje in Slovenia, selected as the European Christmas City, transforms into a magical destination each December with its long-running Fairytale Celje event. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2025, the city is renowned for its Fairytale Land themed holiday displays, Treasure Trove of Gifts market with handcrafted goods and light installations that blend festive charm with its rich history. Medieval holiday activities at Celje Castle further enhance the city’s unique appeal.

Noja, a picturesque coastal village in Spain, has been named the European Christmas Village. Known for its community-centred celebrations, Noja creates a warm and inviting atmosphere with family-friendly workshops, local crafts and regional delicacies. The village’s illuminated streets and serene natural surroundings, including peaceful nature walks through the Santoña Marshes, capture the spirit of Christmas by the sea.

These titles will be officially conferred during a ceremony in Brno, Czech Republic, on 15 December 2024, celebrating Europe’s dedication to preserving holiday traditions and fostering cultural connections.
