Handicap International Luxembourg has come forward to call on the financial help of the public in support of its Ecuador branch currently rescuing and caring for casualties caused by Saturday's earthquake.
Priority is reportedly currently being given to rescuing the wounded and taking care of those affected, including at the psychosocial level. Handicap International has now reached out to the generosity of the Luxembourg public for donations in favour of the victims.
A Handicap International emergency team, composed of a specialist coordinator for emergency situations, a technical coordinator specialising in rehabilitation and physiotherapy, and a logistics expert arrived in Quito, Ecuador's capital, on Wednesday. The team is aiming to rescue 2,000 victims, knowing that as the death toll continues to climb that number may change.
Handicap International also reported plans to provide equipment and enhance the capacity of health personnel in rehabilitative care and psychosocial support, ensuring the inclusion of the most vulnerable people and groups in the emergency response.
