Details: On Tuesday 7 October 2014, AMCHAM will organise a lunchtime event on the topic of FATCA and its implications, at the sofitel Kirchberg from 12:00, with the contribution of the Republicans Overseas Luxembourg.
Guest speaker will be US Senator Mike Lee who is leading initiatives in Washington to repeal the “Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act” or FATCA.
FATCA has done more to strain US-Luxembourg business relations than any other US tax legislation ever. FATCA’s negative impact is profound and wide, including:
• Luxembourg banks are now burdened with enormous additional compliance costs to comply with FATCA.
• Negative impact on US-Luxembourg investment flows due to the over-burdensome reporting requirements
• “Blacklisting” US Citizens and businesses in light of FACTA’s prohibitive compliance costs.
Now a counter-movement is gaining momentum in Washington to repeal FATCA. Senator Mike Lee will be updating attendees on the strategy for success of these anti-FATCA reforms and repealing FATCA as the ultimate objective.
Republicans Overseas Luxembourg and various aligned groups are trying to raise awareness and funds to finance a lawsuit against FATCA in order to strike down various of its provisions. Senator Lee (R-Utah) and his Chief of Staff are on a 4 city European Roadshow to promote this repeal and help to educate the American community overseas to repeal this legislation. The senator can also assist and help with other important matters pertaining to Americans Overseas. The senator is also assisting ROA though other events during the day to raise money for this lawsuit.
