On Saturday 19 March 2016, the Belval campus of the University of Luxembourg in Esch/Alzette will open its doors to prospective students, parents, teachers and interested citizens looking to find out more about the academic institution.

From 09:00 to 16:00, visitors will be able to look behind the scenes of Luxembourg's only public university and see the 'Maison du Savoir' and the 'Cité des Sciences', one of Europe's most ambitious urbanisation projects.

The University of Luxembourg offers a choice of eleven Bachelor and 39 Master degree programmes, as well as vocational training and lifelong learning courses. At the Open Day, professors, student advisors, students and staff will be onhand to advise prospective students on considerations such as course content, admission procedures, student exchanges and job prospects.

In 2015, the University was designated the second most international university in the world by the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking, and has announced that it will be extending its range of programmes and courses from autumn 2016 to include a new three-year specialisation in English literature and linguistics in the 'Bachelor en Cultures Européennes'; a collaboration with the University of Truer to offer a 'Master in Theaterwissenschaft une Interkulturalität'; and the new vocational Master for prospective secondary school teachers, the 'Master en Enseignement Secondaire' provided in German, French and Mathematics.

In addition, the three Master courses in European law have been reorganised and expanded into six highly specialised 'Master of Laws' (LL.M.) degrees, meaning that aspiring lawyers now choose between 'Droit et Contentieux de l'Union Européenne', 'Droit Bancaire et Financier Européen', 'European Economic and Financial Criminal Law', 'European and International Tax Law', 'European Private Law' and 'Space, Communication and Media Law'.

The Open Day will enable visitors to engage in a variety of activities, such as guided tours of the 'Cité des Sciences', a behind-the-scenes look at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), a visit to a halls of residence (UNI-VAL I) on Belval campus, live experiments with Scienteens Lab researchers on the topic of 'DNA isolation from fruit' and insights into the work of the National Centre of Excellence in Research on Parkinson's Disease (NCER-PD). Representatives of the University of the Greater Region (UniGR), the Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR), the 'Centre de Documentation et d'Information sur l'Enseignement Supérieur' (CEDIES) and the city of Esch/Alzette will also be in attendance to provide presentations.

The event will take place from 09:00-16:00 on Saturday 19 March 2016 at the main entrance 'Auditoires' of the Maison du Savoir, 2, avenue de l’Université, L-4365 Esch/Alzette.
