It has already been 30 years since a handful of enthusiasts launched Luxembourg Air Rescue. LAR employees celebrated this milestone anniversary in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, together with other eminent guests from the spheres of diplomacy and politics. Apart from the ambassadors of Belgium, Great Britain, Greece, France, Germany and the Netherlands, numerous politicians from Luxembourg and the Greater Region participated in the birthday celebration at Findel airport. Proceedings opened with a speech by Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, in which he highlighted how LAR has become a treasured Luxembourg institution.
Jeff Skiles, the co-pilot and one of the heroes of “The Miracle on the Hudson”, congratulated the LAR during a keynote speech in which he described how the famous ditching in the Hudson River unfolded. René Closter concluded by summing up the driving ethos of LAR in the following way: “To prove ourselves worthy of the trust which our 185,000 members and our patients have in us, is our daily goal – today and for the coming 30 years.”
