The City of Luxembourg has reported that it is organising a series of events as part of Orange Week 2024, which aims to combat violence against girls and women.

On Saturday 23 November 2024, a "solidarity march" took place from Place Hamilius, organised by the National Council of Women of Luxembourg (CNFL), in partnership with the City of Luxembourg.

On Monday 25 November 2024 at 12:15, the public are invited to form an orange human chain in front of the City Hall on Place Guillaume II in Luxembourg-Ville. Participants are encouraged to take part in this awareness-raising and solidarity event and are invited to wear an orange-coloured accessory or item of clothing. Luxembourgish singer Carisa Dias will present her new song "There for you", which deals with violence against women.

Also on Monday, from 18:30, the “Utopia Takeover” event will take place in Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg, as part of the release of the film Hors d’haleine. This moving drama by Luxembourg director Eric Lamhène takes place in a women’s shelter. For one evening, the exterior of the cinema will be lit up in orange and the film will be shown in all the cinema’s rooms. The public is invited to wear something orange. After the screenings, a reception will allow audience members to interact with representatives of various associations. The shows start every fifteen minutes.

From Tuesday 26 November to Tuesday 31 December 2024, the Bierger-Centre in Place Guillaume II will host the exhibition "Soft Voices" by Luxembourgish visual artist Nadine Rocco, which focuses on domestic violence. Visitors will discover works that invite them to look beyond the surface and challenges them to confront the uncomfortable truths that are often silenced. The exhibition is characterised by the contrast between the materials used; some hard, others soft, but all in soft and subdued colours, belying the harsh realities they represent. The exhibition will open on Tuesday at 16:30 in the presence of Luxembourg City Mayor, Lydie Polfer, City of Luxembourg officials and the artist. Entry is free of charge.

From Monday 25 November to Tuesday 10 December, the City Hall in Place Guillaume II, the Villa Vauban, the Grand Théâtre tower, the Ban de Gasperich water tower, the Stade de Luxembourg and the trees on Place d’Armes will be illuminated in orange.

Orange Week is coordinated at the national level by the National Council of Women of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg section of Zonta International.
